Smart School Investments In Security
Rondout Valley High To Get New Camera Systems

KYSERIKE – The Rondout Valley School District board of education approved the next phase of its Smart School investment this week. Phase two outlines a budget that's just over $185,000 budget for a camera security system in the high school.

Funds for the system are drawn from the $2 million plus that the school district received as part of the New York State Smart School Act in recent years. Late last year the district announced plans to allocate part of the funds for an improved internet infrastructure and devices for the classroom.

The current preliminary budget outlines a camera system that incorporates dome, 360 degree and outdoor-rated cameras for both the interior and exterior of the building. Line items on the budget include the cost of the network, device racks, cables, cameras, labor and architectural services.

Director of technology Angelo Urrico said all budget quotes come from a single vendor, and that the district's building and grounds department contributed to the effort to locate installation sites.

The full preliminary budget will be made available on the New York state business portal and the district website for thirty days, during which a public hearing will be held.

Meanwhile, the school district is readying for a busy few months ahead. From February 24 through 26, the high school will be performing the musical "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown," while on February 26 the seventh and eighth grades jazz band will host its annual spaghetti dinner at the Ellenville Elks Lodge from 3:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Also coming upon March 3 and 4 will be Marbletown Elementary School's grades 2 and 3 play, an April 6 district jazz concert, Senior Palooza and a chorus and band concert on April 19, and a Kerhonkson Elementary School grade 2 concert on April 27.
